Join this online class to make your decorative tree skirt using one of our applique designs. You can make any size base to suit your tree and then decorate it with as much or as little as you want. You can even use your own pieced blocks instead of applique. Ruth will show you how. Included in this class are easy methods of quilting using either straight stitch quilting or free-motion techniques.
For all designs:
Background using 1 fabric only: 2 1/2 yds [3 yds; 4 yds]
OR
Background using 2 fabrics: Outer fabric: 1 1/2 yds [1 7/8 yds; 2 1/2 yds] & Inner fabric: 1 yd [1 1/8 yds; 1 1/2 yds]
Binding Fabric: 2/3 yd [3/4 yd; 1 1/4 yd]
Batting & backing fabric at least 4" larger than quilt size
Thread for piecing and quilting
8-10 snaps (or snap tape) OR velcro OR 2yd ribbon for closure
Sewing machine and accessories
General quilting supplies such as rotary cutter, mat and rulers
Wedge Ruler (optional but useful) - wedge template is supplied in pattern
For all Applique designs:
1-1 1/2yd fusible webbing
Machine embroidery thread to match applique fabrics
Teflon Sheet, parchment paper or baking paper
Lightbox maybe useful
Note: The following amounts are only a guideline for purchasing applique fabrics. You may use a larger variety of fabrics in which case the yardage will be smaller.
Poinsettia Design:
4-6 fat eighths red fabrics for flowers
4 fat eighths of green for leaves
Scraps of yellow for flower centers
Holly Design:
1/4 yd green for leaves
Scraps of red for berries
Snowflake Design:
1/2 yd for snowflakes
For pieced block insert
If you are inserting your own blocks, you will have extra background fabric. This can be used for your block backgrounds. In addition, you will need EIGHT 10" [12"; 14"] (finished) pieced blocks.
